We are pleased to announce that we have a newly revised Inter-library Loan Code for the region! Last fall, Southeastern’s Regional Inter-library Loan Committee (RIC) shared a draft of a proposed update to our code. After an open comment period, this draft was shared with and approved by all of our regional library systems.
Our new code is derived from ALA's 2023 Inter-library Loan Code, with some exceptions and provisions specific to our region. The new code includes a variety of changes, many of which focus on the importance of communication between borrowing and lending libraries. The code also includes additions that reflect commonplace ILL practices such as: consulting borrowers when sending unpublished versions of articles, providing supplementary materials to articles when possible, paying attention to any notes in borrowing requests, and letting borrowing libraries know they shouldn't clean or repair materials belonging to another library.
